AUSTIN—Disability Rights Texas is proud to announce Tresi Moore Weeks of Plano, Texas, as the new Chair of its Board of Directors beginning October 1, 2018. She served the last two years as Vice Chair and has been on the Board for five years. She was previously Chair of the Board Strategic Planning Committee and a member of several other Board Committees. She was a member of the DRTx Protection and Advocacy for Individuals with Mental Illness (PAIMI) Advisory Council for four years where she served as Chair of the Council for two years.
Weeks is an attorney and founder of the Weeks Law Firm, PLLC in Plano, Texas. She assists clients with estate planning, special needs planning, probate and guardianship. As an advocate for her own child’s special needs, she became active with the disability rights and advocacy community. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Foreign Service at Baylor University and a Juris Doctor at Baylor University Law School.
“I have enjoyed serving on both the DRTx Board and PAIMI Council because it has allowed me to have a firsthand perspective of the important work that DRTx does every day to protect the rights of people with disabilities in Texas,” said Weeks. “As the new Chair, I am honored to help lead the organization in continuing to ensure people with disabilities are afforded the same opportunities in life that all people have.”
Weeks is a frequent speaker on special needs trusts and guardianship for attorneys, advisors, educators and parents of children with special needs. She lives with her husband and daughter and is a member of the Watermark Community Church.
“Tresi has a strong personal record of supporting and advocating for the rights of people with disabilities,” said DRTx Executive Director Mary Faithfull. “She brings a unique perspective and will be a great asset to our organization as Chair of our Board.”
In addition to her volunteer work with DRTx, Weeks is a board member and past President of the Collin County Bar Association Estate Planning and Probate Section. She serves as a member of the Board of Directors for several organizations, including the Estate Planning Council of North Texas, the Association for Independent Living (AFIL) in Dallas, Coventry Reserve in Wylie and the Dallas Society of Financial Service Professionals. Her professional memberships include the State Bar College, Probate Trusts and Estates Section of the Dallas Bar Association, Dallas Estate Planning Council, and the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. She was voted the Best Lawyer in Plano in the Plano Star Courier Reader’s Choice Awards 2015.
