COVID-19 Vaccine Resources for People with Disabilities in Texas

Posted on

COVID-19 vaccines are covered by most insurances, and there are community programs that offer it for free. This handout covers the resources available to help people with disabilities in Texas learn more about the vaccines and how to get one. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Stay Up to Date with Your COVID-19 Vaccines covers who can get what vaccines and includes recommendations for people who are immunocompromised.

Vaccine Access Navigators

If you are a person with a disability who needs help getting the vaccine, our Vaccine Access Navigators can help you. They can help you sign up for the vaccine, find a ride to get a vaccine, or arrange for the vaccine to be brought to you. The navigators are also available to answer your questions about the vaccine. To connect with a navigator, call 1-800-880-8401 Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Central Time or send an email to vaccine@DRTx.org.

Vaccine Information for People with Disabilities

The Self Advocacy Resource and Technical Assistance Center’s COVID-19 Vaccine Information in Plain Language includes basic information about the vaccine. Created by and for people with disabilities, the booklet addresses a number of topics, like what a vaccine is, talking to your doctor, and what to do if you think your rights have been violated when trying to get a vaccine.

Also, our COVID-19 Vaccination Resources in Plain Language includes links to a number of resources that are easy to read and understand.

Questions about the COVID-19 Vaccine

How effective is the vaccine? What is the difference between the various COVID-19 vaccines available? To learn about these topics and more, see the CDC’s Vaccines for COVID-19.

Also, you may have noticed that there is a lot of information about the vaccine on the internet. Unfortunately, not everything you find online is true. To get some clarity between what is true and what isn’t, see our Click bait or the real deal? What’s really true about the COVID-19 vaccine.
